JAPANESE TRADITIONAL HEALTHY COOKERY CLASS

Eat healthy authentic Japanese foods

The Japanese diet consists of minimally processed, seasonal fresh foods served in a variety of small dishes. It contains very small amounts of added sugars, fats, or animal protein and promotes fish, seafood, rice, noodles, seaweed, soy, fruit, and vegetables.

The traditional Japanese diet is naturally rich in various nutrients, including fibre, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, and vitamins A, C, and E.

On this course you will learn to make dishes which offers good amounts of seaweed, yuzu juice and green tea. These are great sources of antioxidants, which are beneficial compounds that protect your body against cellular damage and disease. Using oily fish & seaweed in the Japanese diet provides long-chain omega-3 fats, which promote brain, eye, and heart health.

Japanese foods are naturally low in added sugar and fat, and these factors all contribute to a low calorie count. In addition, Japanese culture encourages eating until only 80% full. This practice deters overeating  and may contribute to the calorie deficit needed to lose weight.

Furthermore, research shows that the fibre-rich vegetables, soy foods, and soups typical of the traditional Japanese diet may help reduce appetite and boost fullness, thus promoting weight control and longevity.

This evening medicinal cookery class incorporates Japanese foods into exciting and tasty recipes in a simplistic way. You will learn what ingredients can enhance your body, maximise your energy and keep you full and satisfied throughout the day.  At KitchenJoy we will offer guidance and tips to help you choose healthier options.

You will learn to cook a wide range of simple, healthy dishes using fresh and easily available ingredients. You will discover the medicinal benefits of selected herbs and spices with an explanation of the importance of certain nutrient groups.

Prawn or shiitake mushroom gyoza dumplings
